Legal Counsel for the Elderly
The LCE handles cases for Washington, D.C. residents age 60 and older as well as Social Security and Supplemental Security Income disability cases for D.C. residents age 55 and older. They handle civil legal matters using staff attorneys, private practice attorneys, and specially trained volunteers. They also offer referrals. The LCE’s most common cases deal with foreclosures, landlord/tenant issues, social security and SSI denials, terminations and overpayments, guardianships, home repair fraud, Medicaid, Medicare, wills, powers of attorney, and property tax. They give priority to clients who are in greater financial or legal need.

Fit and Well Seniors
The YMCA Fit & Well Seniors Program caters to the needs of more than 100,000 seniors residing in DC, many of whom are widowed, living on a modest income and have limited access to activities. Launched in 2010 in partnership with CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, this program helps seniors find energy, movement, and a support network.
